A quick introduction to the Biblical Solar Calendar

Yeshua used the terms “It has been written” when He battled HaSatan in the wilderness while fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. It would behoove us to use these same terms when searching for and defending the truth of Yahweh’s Word. We will do just a little of this in today’s post regarding Yahweh’s biblical solar calendar. To defeat the devil’s temptations, Yeshua quoted verses from the Torah three times on His final day of testing in the wilderness. See Matthew 4:1-11 for the details.

Numbers 10:10 TS98, “And in the day of your gladness, and in your appointed times, and at the beginning of your months, you shall blow the trumpets [two silver trumpets from verse 2] over your burnt offerings and over your peace offerings. And they shall be a remembrance[zikron, memorial, reminder] for you before your Elohim. I am יהוהyour Elohim.”

Numbers 28:11-14 TS98, “‘And on the beginnings of your months you bring near a burnt offering to יהוה: two young bulls and one ram, and seven lambs a year old, perfect ones; 12three-tenths of an ĕphah of fine flour as a grain offering, mixed with oil, for each bull; two-tenths of an ĕphah of fine flour as a grain offering, mixed with oil, for the one ram; 13and one-tenth of an ĕphah of fine flour, mixed with oil, as a grain offering for each lamb, as a burnt offering of sweet fragrance, an offering made by fire to יהוה.

14‘And their drink offering is half a hin of wine for a bull, and one-third of a hin for a ram, and one-fourth of a hin for a lamb. This is the burnt offering for each month [chodesh chodesh, month by month] throughout the months of the year,”

2 Chronicles 31:2-4 HRB, “And Hezekiah made stand the courses of the priests and of the Levites, by their divisions, each according to his service, of the priests and of the Levites, for burnt offerings, and for peace offerings, to serve and to give thanks, and to give praise in the gates of the camps of YAHWEH. 3And the king’s portion from his substance was for burnt offerings, for burnt offerings of the morning and the evening [daily oblation offerings]; and the burnt offerings of the Sabbaths, and of the new moons[a Torah compliant translation would be:beginnings of your months, chodeshim #2320], and of the appointed seasons, as it was written in the Torah of YAHWEH[See Num. 28:11-14 above].4And he commanded the people, those who lived in Jerusalem, to give the portion of the priests and of the Levites, in order that they might be made strong in the Law of YAHWEH.”

Notice Numbers 10:10 above, you see that there were offerings to be made at the beginning of each month (It does NOT say at the beginning of each new moon. NEVER in the Pentateuch is the term new moon used.), accompanied by the blowing of the two silver trumpets. Have you ever wondered what was being memorialized at the beginning of each month? With a little searching you can find one significant beginning of the month event in the life of the newly born nation of Israel during their wilderness experience after the Exodus from Egypt. Exodus 40:1-2, 17-19TS98, “And יהוהspoke to Mosheh, saying, 2On the first day of the first month, you are to raise up the Dwelling Place of the Tent of Meeting,”” . . . “And it came to be in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, that the Dwelling Place was raised up. 18And Mosheh raised up the Dwelling Place and placed its sockets, and set up its boards, and put in its bars, and raised up its columns, 19and spread the tent over the Dwelling Place and put the covering of the tent on top of it, as יהוהhad commanded Mosheh.” Exodus 40:34-35 HRB, “And the cloud covered the tabernacle of the congregation; and the glory of YAHWEH filled the tabernacle. 35And Moses was not able to come into the tabernacle of the congregation because the cloud dwelt on it. And the glory of YAHWEH filled the tabernacle.”

Yahweh came down to dwell among Israel, in the midst of their camp, in the Tabernacle Moses built for Him. Now, I ask you, would that event be a significant enough event that Yahweh wanted Israel to remember this glorious day on the first of every month, perpetually? I believe that is exactly what the Scriptures reveal. When Yahweh shows up to live among you, or in you, that would mark a day on our calendar as a holy day, don’t you think? Yahweh Himself sanctified the first day of each month with His very Presence.

Look closely at this brief history of Israel, from day 1 of year 1 of the Exodus, when Yahweh resynchronized Israel with His calendar in Exodus 12:1-2 TS98, “And יהוהspoke to Mosheh and to Aharon in the land of Mitsrayim, saying, 2This month is the beginning of months for you, it is the first month of the year for you.”” To the setting up of the Tabernacle on day 1 year 2 of the Exodus found in Exodus 40, Yahweh ONLY used the word chodesh in the sense of a month, NEVER in the sense of a New Moon, or lunar based calendar. The calendar used by Yahweh and Yeshua has ALWAYS been a solar calendar, NEVER a lunar calendar. That is how it has been written from the beginning of created time in Genesis 1:1.

The word chodesh is used 283 times in the Tanakh. According to one of the laws of interpretation, the Law of First Mention, and the Law of Second Mention if you will, and the Law all the way up to and including the first 86 mentions of Chodesh in the Torah, it is translated as month. NOT ONCE in the Law of Moses, the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Scriptures, was the word chodesh translated as new moon. NOT ONCE!! Is that not the Torah precedent? We will have to ask the lying pen of the scribes (Jer. 8:8-9), the lunar biased translators, and the Greek minded translators why they mistranslated chodesh as new moon in other Scriptures. According to the Word of Yahweh, as you have just read above, chodesh means month. In the first two Scripture references that use the word chodesh, Gen. 7:11 and 8:4, during the cataclysm of Noah’s Flood, chodesh is used twice in each verse, and both verses are speaking of the 17th day of the month, a waning moon, if you’re a lunar moonie, which in no known universe could be considered anything remotely close to a new moon. Therefore, I declare to you that Gen. 7:11 and 8:4 are recorded dates on Yahweh’s biblical solar calendar!! You can learn a lot about Yahweh and His solar calendar, just by checking out His date stamps throughout the Word.

If you would like to gain more technical knowledge about the biblical solar calendar that Yahweh and Yeshua used, go to Kimberly Dubois’ site at and Rob Moore’s site at For now, I would rather enjoy Yahweh’s calendar, than get all technical with you, because I am still learning about this calendar also. On that note, let’s go to Matthew 4:1-11 and see how the biblical solar calendar may have played into the temptation of Messiah. Matthew 4:1-11 HRB, “Then Yahshua was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the Devil. 2And having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards He hungered. 3And coming near to Him, the accuser said, If You are the Son of YAHWEH, speak that these stones may become loaves. 4But answering, He said, It has been written “Man shall not live by bread alone, but on every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of YAHWEH.” (Deut. 8:3) 5Then the accuser takes Him to the holy city, and he set Him on the pinnacle of the sanctuary. 6and he said to Him, If You are the Son of YAHWEH, throw Yourself down; for it has been written “He shall give His cherubs charge concerning You, and they shall bear You on their hands, lest You strike Your foot against a stone.” (Psa. 91:11, 12) 7Yahshua said to him, Again it has been written “You shall not test YAHWEH your Elohim.” (Deut. 6:16) 8Again the Devil takes Him to a very high mountain, and shows to Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9And said to Him. I will give all these things to You if falling down, You will worship me. 10Then Yahshua said to him, Go, Satan! For it has been written “You shall worship YAHWEH your Elohim, and Him only shall you serve.” (Deut. 6:13) 11Then the accuser left Him. And behold! Cherubs came near and ministered to Him.”

At this time of year, brother Judah is in their sixth lunar month of Elul, a month of repentance, prayer and fasting, up to the 10th of the 7th lunar month of the Jews, Yom Kippur. Forty days and forty nights of introspection and repentance. Some believe Yeshua did His forty day fast during this time of year. It’s a possibility, but let’s look at this time period from the biblical solar calendar perspective. The sixth month on Yahweh’s biblical solar calendar has 31 days, not 30 days, like the Jews’ lunar month of Elul has. So, if Yeshua had begun his fast on 6-1, and fasted for forty days and nights, He would have finished His fast at sundown on 7-9, the day BEFORE Yom Kippur, actually, right at the sundown that BEGAN Yom Kippur!! And look at verse 2 of Matthew 4 above, Yeshua wasn’t really hungry until AFTER the forty days and nights, which would have been EXACTLY ON the day of Yom Kippur, or Day of Atonement!! And what did Yeshua do on that particular Yom Kippur? He kicked the devil’s butt by quoting the written Torah of Yahweh. He overcame Satan on Yom Kippur, not just for His own sake, but for your sakes also!! Yeshua’s living self-denying sacrifice on this particular Yom Kippur was an atonement for you, my dear reader! Romans 5:8-11 HRB, “but YAHWEH commends His love to us in this that we being yet sinners, Messiah died for us. 9Much more then, being justified now by His blood, we shall be delivered from wrath through Him. 10For if while being enemies we were reconciled to YAHWEH through the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life; 11and not only so, but also glorying in YAHWEH through our Master Yahshua Messiah, through whom we now received the atonement.” My friends, Yeshua not only fulfilled the Fall Feast of Yom Kippur through His execution on a tree, He began fulfilling it while He walked in the flesh at the beginning of His ministry!! Praise His holy Name forevermore!! Yeshua was showing us how to overcome the devil with His Word, how to live in the flesh using the Torah!! So, when the devil tempts you in your pride, just thrust the living sWord into his heart and slice a couple times for good measure.

The first day of the seventh month is just around the corner, beginning at sundown on September 17, 2013 CE, per Yahweh’s biblical solar calendar. Will you take a moment to blow your trumpet and remember that now, today, in the 21st century, Yahweh doesn’t just live among us, He lives right inside of us, through His precious Holy Spirit! Get ready for the Fall Feasts of Yahweh by repenting of your sin today, pray for yourself, your friends and family, your enemies and colleagues, and especially for your political and ministerial leaders around the globe. Work at being reconciled to those you have broken fellowship with. Yeshua will more than likely return to earth on a future 7-1, Feast of Trumpets. Will you be ready to herald Him as your King? Sure, blow your trumpets on 7-1, but acknowledge Yahweh everyday and let Him know how much you appreciate all He does for you. We are saved by His life, not just by His death.

Shabbat Shalom,

Attitude is Everything

Now, let’s look even further back into the history of tithes, offerings, and giving. We learn in the story of Cain and Abel, that offerings to Yahweh were done very early in human history. Genesis 4:1-7 HRB, “And the man knew his wife Eve. And she conceived and bore Cain, and said, I have gotten a man, [from] Yahweh. 2And she continued to bear his brother, Abel. And Abel became a shepherd of flocks. And Cain became a tiller of the ground. 3And it was in the end of days, it happened that Cain brought an offering to Yahweh from the fruit of the ground. 4And Abel brought, he also, from the firstlings of his flocks, even from their fat. And Yahweh looked to Abel and to his offering. 5And He did not look to Cain and to his offering. And Cain glowed greatly with anger, and his face fell. 6And Yahweh said to Cain, Why have you angrily glowed, and why has your face fallen? 7If you do well, is there not exaltation? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is toward you; but you should rule over it.”

The Hebrew word for offering in verse 3 is minchah, meaning an apportioned donation, gift, tribute, or present. Volumes have been written about why Yahweh accepted Abel’s and not Cain’s offering, but it’s pretty obvious that Cain had an attitude problem. Cain may not have brought his best produce, or maybe not his firstfruits. Whatever the reason, he became so angry over Yahweh’s rejection of his gift, that he murdered his brother Abel. Rough day at the altar. A word to the wise, give Yahweh your best and your firstfruits, firstlings, or from your gross paycheck.

Leviticus 27:25-34 HRB, “And all your valuation shall be by the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs shall be the shekel. 26However, no man shall dedicate a firstling, which is first-born to Yahweh among animals, whether ox or sheep; it belongs to Yahweh. 27And if it is among the unclean animals, then he shall ransom it at your valuation, and he shall add its fifth to it. And if it is not redeemed, then it shall be sold at your evaluation. 28But any devoted thing which a man devotes to Yahweh from all which belongs to him, of man or of animal, or of the field of his possession, it shall not be sold nor redeemed. Every devoted thing to Yahweh is most holy. 29No devoted thing which is dedicated by man shall be ransomed, dying it shall die. 30And all the tithe of the land, of the seed of the land, of the fruit of the tree, shall belong to Yahweh; it is holy to Yahweh.

31And if a man really redeems any of his tithes, he shall add its fifth to it. 32And all the tithe of the herd and of the flock, all that passes under the rod, a tenth shall be holy to Yahweh; 33he shall not search whether it is good or bad, nor shall he change it. And if he at all changes it, then it shall be that it and its substitute shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed. 34These are the commands which Yahweh has commanded Moses for the sons of Israel, on Mount Sinai.”

It is also possible that Cain did not give Yahweh a tenth of his increase. Or, he may not have regarded his offering as holy to Yahweh. Maybe Cain was so selfish that he really didn’t want to give anything to Yahweh, he gave grudgingly instead. Cain just didn’t recognize Yahweh as the owner of all things, he thought he owned his harvest. We can’t see into Cain’s heart, but Yahweh certainly did. There could have been many reasons why Yahweh disregarded Cain’s offering. What we do know is that Cain allowed himself to be enticed to sin against his brother Abel. How would you like to be recorded in history as the first murderer? But you know what? Yahweh also knows who will be the last murderer on planet earth!

What was the difference between Cain and Abel’s offering? Abel recognized that the firstlings, or firstfruits, belong to Yahweh, Leviticus 27:26 HRB, “However, no man shall dedicate a firstling, which is first-born to Yahweh among animals, whether ox or sheep; it belongs to Yahweh.” Apparently, Abel’s offering was made according to Torah, Cain’s was not. From stories like this, we learn that we must diligently study Torah to learn what Yahweh requires, what pleases Him. We are not in this walk with Yahweh to please ourselves, it’s all for His glory and honor. We must maintain an attitude that pleases, honors, and serves Yahweh and His purposes. When the Scriptures say all the tithe, the whole tenth, of our increase belongs to Yahweh, that’s what it means, not one shekel or gerah less.

But Messiah Yeshua also taught us not to sit around weighing every gram of herb and spice for tithing, to the neglect of the weightier matters of the Torah. Matthew 23:23-24 HRB, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithes of mint and dill and cumin, and you have left aside the weightier matters of the Torah judgment, and mercy, and faith. And these things were necessary for you to have done, and these things you should not have forgotten. 24Blind guides, straining out the gnat, but swallowing the camel!” Tithing every gram is important, but not more important than right judgment of character and behavior, mercy toward those who’ve wronged us, and faith in Yahweh to see us through every situation. We need to know Yahweh as best we can and to understand Torah to the best of our ability, so we can walk in the fruit of the Holy Spirit. We learn Torah to equip ourselves for every good work of Yahweh. What good does it do you or the nation if you are able to tithe every gram of fruit or every firstling, but you then murder your brother or your Messiah? And don’t forget, Yeshua taught that we can murder with our thoughts and words, not just in deed.

Yahweh doesn’t want you coming to His Feast barbeques with exactly 10% of your increase, but with malice or strife in your life. Matthew 5:23-24 HRB, “Then if you offer your gift on the altar, and remember there that your brother has a grudge against you, 24leave your gift there before the altar, and go. First, be reconciled to your brother, and then coming, offer your gift.” Our heavenly Father is much more interested in the condition of our hearts, than in the condition or exactness of our tithes and offerings. Give and receive forgiveness first, then offer your tithes to Yahweh. Proper holy tithing and offering is the result of right relationship, not the condition for obtaining right relationship. Learn Torah, get your heart right, then bring your tithes and offerings to the altar of Yahweh.

Lot’s King

Let’s go back to the first instance of tithing in the Scriptures, not considering the books of Enoch, Jasher, or Jubilees. Remember the story in Genesis 14, where there was a war of rebellion against Chedorlaomer, king of the suzerain state of Elam [Persia, modern Iran]? Chedorlaomer was ruling over at least the nine kingdoms mentioned in verses 1-2. Everything was fine until 5 kings rebelled against him in his thirteenth year. The battle of rebellion was joined in the valley of Siddim, the valley of the modern Dead Sea. It took Chedorlaomer another year to gather his allied forces and begin to squash the rebellion, Chedorlaomer’s four kingdoms against the five rebel kingdoms. He attacked the Amorites, which was a mistake, because they were Abram’s allies. Take special note of verse 10, which states that Bera, the king of Sodom, and Birsha, king of Gomorrah, fell in the asphalt pits. I would presume that they died there, because all their remaining troops fled to the mountain. Verse 12 shows that Abram’s nephew, Lot, a resident and subject of Sodom, was captured, so Abram, with 318 servants, and some covenant Amorite allies joined the battle and rescued Lot, his family, and many other people. Genesis 14:15-17 HRB, “And he divided against them by night, he and his slaves, and he struck them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is on the left [north] of Damascus. 16And he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother [nephew Lot], and also the women and the people. 17And the king of Sodom went out to meet him, after he returned from smiting Chedorlaomer and the kings which were with him, to the valley of Shaveh, it being the valley of the king.” Look at that, Abram won a great victory in a night battle! Abram could have reigned as king over at least four defeated kingdoms!! I’m sure the five rebel kingdoms would have paid him tribute also, but as we will see shortly, Abram wanted “nothing” from this world. And notice the king of Sodom went out to meet Abram, since young Bera, the heir apparent king that had led the Sodomite army, had died in the asphalt pits. Dr. Strong states that the Valley of Shaveh is in Israel. And remember, the king of Sodom is now with Abram in this valley of the king.

Then we have the following story upon Abram and Lot’s safe return: Genesis 14:18-24 HRB, “And Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine; and he was the priest of the most High El (El Elyone) [Yahweh]. 19And he blessed him and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high El, possessor of Heaven and earth; 20and blessed be the most high El, who has delivered your enemies into your hand. And he [Abram] gave him [Melchizedek] a tithe of all. 21And the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the persons and take the goods for yourself. 22And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Yahweh, the most high El, the possessor of Heaven and earth, 23that I will not take from all that is yours, from a thread to a shoe latchet, and that you may not say, I have made Abram rich. 24Nothing for me; only what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre [Abram’s Amorite covenant allies]; let them take their portion.”

The Hebrew word for tithe in verse 20 is ma‛ăśar, Strong’s #4643, meaning a tenth part, or payment of the tenth part. As far as I can tell, this is the first use of the word in the Scriptures, many years and many generations before Moses’ Law and Deuteronomy 14:22-29. Since Abram recognized Melchizedek as Yahweh’s representative on earth, and since he had just received an increase [see Deut. 14:22] from the spoils of war, he tithed a tenth of the spoils to Melchizedek. Apparently, Yahweh had laid down the law of the tithe early in human history, more than likely taught directly to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Notice that the king of Sodom did not interfere with Abram’s tithe offering, nor did he complain afterward that Abram had given a tithe to Melchizedek. The king of Sodom happily just asked for his subjects back and was willing to give Abram 100% of the remaining 90% of the spoiled goods!! The king of Sodom understood the law of war and the law of tithing, so was he a righteous king? Was he counted as one of the 10 righteous people Yahweh was looking for in Sodom so He would not have to destroy the city-state? A real possibility. See Gen. 18:32. If Lot’s entire family would have shown a repentant attitude and have been willing to leave Sodom, Yahweh would have spared Sodom for the sake of their righteousness, but Lot’s sons, sons-in-law and married daughters were in perverse rebellion and perished with Sodom. Lot’s wife perished shortly after leaving town. Lot, his two virgin daughters, and the king of Sodom were not enough righteous folk to spare Sodom!! If the king of Sodom were a wise king, he would have remained with Melchizedek or Abram. If this elder king of Sodom returned to Sodom with his recently released captive subjects, then he too perished in its destruction, but the Scriptures do not tell us his fate. This story should be a warning to earthlings today.

And look at verse 24, Abram declared that he wanted nothing from the spoils of war, not even a kingdom!! Was Abram a type of King Yeshua? You bet! Yeshua also refused acceptance of an earthly kingdom in John 6:14-15. Abram could have been crowned king of at least 9 kingdoms, but he refused earthly glory and tribute, because he had already received better promises from Yahweh in Gen. 12:1-3!! See also Hebrews 8:6. Are you righteous like Abraham? Do you have the same humble attitude as Abraham? Are you willing to give up your earthly kingdom in order to receive Yahweh’s promises of eternal glory?

Our tithing reveals our heart attitude that we recognize Yahweh is our source, just like Abram believed. We don’t want the world to make us rich, we want Yahweh’s wealth. We want true, real wealth, not the advertising imitation wealth that the devil promises. The world’s wealth is based on the lie and the liar. Yahweh’s wealth is based on His truth. Yahweh’s word is our treasure. Yahweh’s wisdom is our glory. Yahweh’s people are what’s worth all the suffering. We don’t want the rusting wealth of this dying world and its systems of death. What you see with your physical eyes is the devil’s demo version of his perverted glory. If you swallow his lies, you will get his destiny, eternity in hellfire. You’re better than that. Look with spiritual eyes, hear with spiritual ears. Believe in Yeshua today.
